Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore is one of the most ancient monuments in the world, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and is a renowned American landmark. It features a sculpture carved into the granite face of a mountain, depicting the faces of four U.S. Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

The idea for Mount Rushmore originated in the 1920s as a way to boost tourism in South Dakota. Doane Robinson, a state historian, wanted to create a memorial that would showcase the region’s unique beauty and attract visitors. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum was enlisted to bring the vision to life.
